Stunning Georgian Garnet Pansy Earrings

$2450.00 USD  Item: 1529

In the earlier Georgian period (1714-1830) there were attempts to specify the adornment of clothing and jewelry based on rank or income. By the mid - 1800s this had largely disappeared making jewelry more available to the middle class and garnets were quite a popular gemstone used in jewelry of this time. Nature was at the forefront of daily life and hence, natural themes abounded in the jewelry. These earrings are just the epitome of that era of the early 19th century, a time when symbolism was used to communicate sentiment - the garnet being a symbol of purity, truth, compassion, friendship and love. Almandine garnets flat cut and shaped into pansies set closed back and foiled to enhance their natural hue and brightness. 18kt yellow gold and simply stunning.
